Have a crafty Christmas
Beat Christmas break boredom! With a few craft supplies, you can fashion some reindeer antlers for your favorite stuffed teddy bears and bean bag animals, make ornaments for your Christmas tree, and construct a “sweet” picture frame to showcase your latest photograph.
Sweet treat frame
What you’ll need:
4 jumbo craft sticks
Green or red markers
Starlight mint candies (we used 8 candies, but you can use more or less)
Tacky glue
Cardboard
Your favorite photograph (about 5 inches square)
Magnetic strips
To make:
Color the craft sticks either green or red with markers. Glue the sticks together into a square shape. Leaving the wrappers on the candies, glue them onto the frame. Let the glue dry. Glue your photograph onto a piece of cardboard and let dry. Turn the frame over and apply glue to the backside of the frame, close to inside border of frame. Centering photograph in the frame area, press down to make sure the photograph is securely glued to the frame. Let dry. Attach magnetic strips to the frame so it can be displayed on the refrigerator.
Christmas tree ornament
What you’ll need:
Green 12-inch long chenille stem
11 red 6x9mm red pony beads
Small wooden star
Golden glitter pen
Tacky glue
Ornament hook
To make:
String beads on the chenille stem about one inch apart. Bend the ends of the stem back when all the beads are in place to secure the beads. Bend the stem into the shape of a Christmas tree. Paint the star with the glitter pen. When paint is dry, glue the star to the top of the tree. Attach an ornament hook to your ornament to hang it from your Christmas tree.
Reindeer antlers
What you’ll need:
Yellow or tan 12-inch long chenille stem
Brown 12-inch long chenille stem
Scissors
Ruler
To make:
Cut the yellow or tan chenille stem to fit the top of the animal’s head and around the ears. (Ours was about 5
1
⁄
2
inches long.) This will be the headband. Cut two 3-inch long strips from the brown chenille stem. These will be used for antlers. Bead one antler in half and twist it around the headband. Do the same with the other antler. Place the headband on the animal and adjust the placement of the antlers. Cut four 1-inch pieces from the chenille stem. Twist the small pieces on each antler.
