Youth Tour to Washington:
Deadline nears for June trip

High school juniors have the chance of a lifetime to see
our nation’s capital and learn about its heritage on the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This year’s excursion is June 12-19.

The Youth Tour provides high school seniors-to-be the opportunity to:
• experience first hand how our government functions;
• tour the nation’s capital and its museums and monuments; the battlefield at Gettysburg, Pa.; and Baltimore harbor;
• learn about the complexities of today’s electric utility industry and cooperatives;
• learn leadership skills;
• meet and work with hundreds of their peers from throughout the United States.

Participants, chosen by their participating local REMCs or RECs, will meet in Indianapolis on Thursday, June 12, and depart for Washington on Friday, June 13. The tour bus returns to Indianapolis Thursday, June 19. All travel expenses from Indianapolis, meals, lodging and scheduled event fees will be covered. Travel to and from Indianapolis and incidental expenses incurred by the participants will not be covered.

Application deadlines are in February, so apply now. Selections will be made by the end of February.

To apply: contact your high school counselor or your local electric cooperative.

Check with your local sponsoring electric co-op for details, or look to the center blue-edged pages of the January issue of Electric Consumer for your local co-op’s news (not in all editions).

Here’s a link to a listing of subscribing REMCs and RECs; scroll through the list to find your local co-op and click go to go to the co-op’s Web page where you might find more information about Youth Tour.

This link takes you to another page on the Indiana Statewide Association of RECs Web site where you can also get more information.
