Make a ‘fanny’ face
Beat the heat with a whole new look!
Summertime picnics are lots of fun — but sometimes you need a little extra help to cool down in the great outdoors.
Make these funny face hand fans with a few easy-to-gather supplies from home. The fans are multi-purpose: use them to cool your face, stage a play at your picnic site or even use them to hold a few chips or cookies if the munchies hit!
You’ll need: • one foam or paper plate, • some old magazines, • scissors, • glue, • a plastic knife or Popsicle stick, • clear packing tape, • a hole puncher, • curling ribbon or yarn.
Here’s what to do next: Look through the old magazines and cut out pictures of eyes, a nose and a mouth. Make sure they’re life-size pictures that would look good combined to resemble a face when glued on the plate.
After you’ve glued the pictures to the front of the plate, turn the plate over and attach the plastic knife or Popsicle stick to the back of the plate with the tape. The knife or stick will be the handle of the fan.
Use the hole puncher to punch holes around the top half of the edge of the plate. Punch the holes about a quarter of an inch from the edge of the plate. Cut the yarn or curling ribbon into manageable-sized lengths and loop through the holes. Curl the ribbon if you’d like or fray the yarn. You could also make braids with the yarn.
