About Electric Consumer
Electric Consumer turns official U.S. electricity statistics into pages people can use: what a utility charges, how often its power fails, what a typical bill looks like, and where help with a bill exists.
What we publish
Pages for states, utilities, counties and cities, plus rankings, guides, calculators and downloadable tables. Every figure comes from a public file: the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the Census Bureau, NOAA, FEMA, EPA, the Department of Energy, HHS and a few others. Scripts compute the numbers. Nobody types them in.
The data sources page lists each file with its period, retrieval date and licence. Method and limits are on the methodology page.
Independence from other publications
Electric Consumer is an independent reference site about U.S. electricity prices built on public government data (EIA, Census, FEMA, NOAA). It is not affiliated with Indiana Electric Cooperatives or with the former Electric Consumer magazine, now published as Indiana Connection.
What we leave out
We do not sell plans, collect leads, take payment for placement or show offers from energy suppliers. No free public source has retail plan prices, so we do not show them. Nothing here is a quote or advice about choosing a supplier.
Who is behind it

Editor: Katerine G., Editor & Data Researcher.
Katerine oversees data research and editorial review at Electric Consumer. She works with public energy and consumer datasets to help make U.S. electricity prices, utility information, reliability data, and household energy costs easier to understand.
Research & publishing: Electric Consumer Editorial Team.
How the site is paid for
It is not monetized at launch. There are no ads, affiliate links or paid placements. If that changes, we will say so on this page.
Data and updates
The data files on the site were retrieved on 2 October 2026. EIA publishes its annual utility survey (EIA-861) once a year and retail sales every month; we rebuild the pages when new files arrive and list each change in the data changelog.
