Electric Consumer

Terms of use

Plain terms for using Electric Consumer.

Information, not advice

Everything here is general information built from public data. It is not financial, legal or engineering advice, a quote, or an offer. Prices are annual or monthly averages and do not predict your bill. Your utility bill and your state commission decide what you owe and what rules apply to you. Where we summarize assistance programs or disconnection rules, check the linked agency before you act. The regulators page lists the commission for each state.

Accuracy

We work from official files and check our pages, but data can be revised, delayed or wrong at the source, and we can make mistakes. The site is provided as is, without warranties. Do not rely on it for a decision where a mistake would be costly without checking the original source, which every page names.

Using our data and pages

The tables, rankings and charts we compile are licensed CC BY 4.0: you may copy, adapt and reuse them, including commercially, if you credit “Electric Consumer” and link the page or file you used. The underlying EIA, EPA, NOAA and Census Bureau files are U.S. government works; cite the agency. The Utility Rate Database (URDB) and the DOE Low-Income Energy Affordability Data (LEAD) Tool are published under CC BY 4.0 by their own publishers, and the Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) is credited by name; we credit all three where used. FEMA data is used under the OpenFEMA terms. Each page names its sources, and the data sources page lists the licence of every file. Text and photos on the site may have separate terms; photos carry their own credit and licence. The press kit has citation formats. Do not present our numbers as official government statistics.

We link to government and commission websites. We do not control them and cannot promise they stay available or correct.
